VORP Methodology

League Baseline

VORP can be calculated across different league sizes and lineup configurations. Values are generated based on the selected league format, including 10-team, 12-team, and 16-team leagues, with standard and superflex roster settings.

Each configuration assumes the following baseline starters by position (besides superflex):

Offense: QB (1), RB (2), WR (3), TE (1), K (1)
Defense: DE (2), DT (2), LB (2), CB (2), S (2)

Only players who appeared in more than four games during a season are included in the calculations.

VORP represents the difference in fantasy points per game a player scores compared to the first replacement-level (bench) player at the same position. For example, in a twelve team league, a replacement-level quarterback is the 13th highest scoring quarterback, and a replacement-level running back is the 25th highest scoring running back.

How to Use VORP in Dynasty Fantasy Football

VORP is most powerful when used to compare players across positions. A running back scoring 16 points per game may appear more valuable than a defensive end scoring 14, but VORP reveals how much each player separates from replacement-level production at their position.

In dynasty leagues, this becomes critical during startup drafts and trade negotiations. Managers can identify positional scarcity, avoid overpaying for replaceable production, and prioritize players who create meaningful roster advantage.

For salary cap and contract leagues, VORP also helps quantify whether a player’s contract cost aligns with their positional impact.
